INNOVATIVE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

This course will prepare students to develop an innovative product through a Strategic Planning Process. Unlike a traditional product developed course, our focus is on strategic planning and agile project development from the unique lens of an innovative process. Students will learn practical strategies to innovate their projects and products in order to meet their future organizational goals.
Two weeks program (53.3 hours of instruction) from June 21st to July 4th, 2020.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Differentiate between Strategic Thinking and Strategic Planning
- Understand why most businesses often fail to meet their organizational goals
- Differentiate between Strategic versus Operational Objectives
- Manage and neutralize their competitor's strategy
- Formulate, articulate, communicate, and implement a Strategic process designed to help project and product developers to achieve their desired results.

PRINCIPAL INSTRUCTORS
Martin Wartenberg (MBA, Licensed Professional Engineer).
Mr. Wartenberg has worked in the High Technology Industry for over four decades. He has held Engineering and Executive Positions in various companies including the Rockwell Corporation, Interstate Electronics (L3 Communications) and Hartman Systems. He has been teaching with the University of California for over 20 years and teaches a variety of Engineering, Project Management and Innovation / Entrepreneurship Classes. He has worked with many high-tech and innovative companies, including Blizzard Entertainment, SpaceX, Intel and the Oakley Corporation.
David Ochi, Innovation and the Development of an Ecosystem
Mr. Ochi currently sits on the Board of Directors of a half-dozen companies and is actively involved in the growth of seven early-stage companies. Mr. Ochi is also very actively involved on the Board of four alumni organizations at UC Irvine, the UC Irvine Chancellor's Club Board of Directors, the former Alumni Advisor for UC Ideas program at the Don Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Paul MerageSchool of Business as well a former board member of Tech Coast Venture Network (TCVN) in Orange County. Mr. Ochi sits in several investment screening committees including EvoNexus. Mr. Ochi also is co-founder of the not-for-profit MORE Foundation whose mission is to connect intellectual property opportunities with undergraduate students at local universities.
Richard Steele, Negotiation Skills
Richard A. Steele is a President and General Partner of International Sales and Marketing Group a consulting organization focused on Product and Business Strategy, International Market Development, and Distribution and Sales Channel Programs. He is also a Partner in Bureaucom, LLC an international Translation and Localization Company with offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Laguna Beach, California. He serves on the Executive Board of the OC Tech Alliance. Mr. Steele served as Division Vice President, General Manager for Datagraphixand held senior management and marketing positions with IBM, Anacomp, DatawareDevelopment, and Talarissystems.
